Richard J. Kaveney

Age 92 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, April 25, 2021 at his home.

Born December 13, 1928 in Joliet, Illinois, Richard Joseph was a son of Medill and Mildred Mary (Thimsen) Kaveney. He was raised in Joliet; graduated from Joliet Catholic High School, and went on to honorably serve in the United States Air Force. On September 28, 1957, Richard married Connie S. Scherer in the Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, and together they went on to make their home and raise their family in Plainfield.

Richard worked as a printer, and retired from Columbia Litho in Franklin Park, Illinois. He was a member of the Graphic Communications Union and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #382. Richard enjoyed all sports, especially golf; loved music, and will most be remembered as a simple family oriented man.

Survivors include his loving wife, Connie; daughter, Kimberly (Robert) Morris of Wilmington; son, Richard J. Jr. (Valerie) Kaveney of California; three grandchildren: Melanie (Austin) Cummings of Wilmington, and Grace Kaveney and Faith Kaveney, both of California; one great grandson, Wayne Richard Cummings; his sister-in-law, Shirley (the late Robert) Vescovi of Lockport; brother-in-law, Paul (Janice) Scherer of Indiana, and several nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Marilyn (Raymond) Laurich.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and Richard will be laid to rest with full military honors in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at a later date.
